Tributes have been made to Ellis Robinson, a former Rochdale football academy player who has died
Ellis suffered serious spinal and neck injuries in 2016, following a freak accident while playing the sport that he loved.
Ellis was left paralysed after the horror accident during training when another player fell on top of him and underwent an eight-hour operation to stabilise his spine but never regained full mobility.
His condition deteriorated significantly over the years.
Robinson, from Oldham had been with Rochdale’s youth setup until around 2015. He later enrolled at Oldham College, studying sport as he tried to adapt to life after injury.
Rochdale FC said on X : “We are saddened to learn of the passing of our former academy player, Ellis Robinson.” The club extended thoughts and sympathies to his family and friends.
