The Labour leader of Trafford Council has written to the Prime Minister amid concerns the government has done a U-turn on financial help to local authorities during the Covid-19 crisis.
In the letter Cllr Andrew Western points out that Councils were told to spend whatever was needed to respond to the current crisis and we’d be compensated. Now he says the Government seems to be backtracking.
In Trafford he estimates that in the in year cost of coronavirus to be £34m, so far they have been given just £6m.
“I must ask you,” he writes to give a reassurance on the funding position for local authorities and a guarantee that we will be reimbursed for our costs”
