Families throughout Trafford will have access to a wide range of holiday food projects and support this Christmas thanks to a grant from Trafford Housing Trust.
The £17,500 grant for the Active Appetites project will mean ten different schools and community groups throughout the borough will be able to provide much-needed lunches, hot meals, food hampers and vouchers during the two-week holidays. It takes the total for Active Appetites grants awarded to local groups to over £85,000 for the year.
Support is available in Partington, Urmston, Flixton, Stretford, Old Trafford, Sale, Broadheath, Broomwood, and Oldfield Brow in Altrincham, and families can find their nearest winter food support provider by calling the helpline on 0300 330 9073.
Elizabeth Dotun is Project Director at Rehoboth for Families, a charity which provides family support services, consultation, referrals and outreach, and they will be providing hot meals and food hampers in collaboration with Stretford Salvation Army.
She said: “For us, it’s more than giving people food, it’s about building relationships, and we are happy that some of the families we are supporting will also be volunteering to ensure a successful outcome. Our core value is valuing people and making them part of the services we provide, and we would like to thank Trafford Housing Trust for the opportunity to feed families during the winter holiday.”
Larry Gold, CEO of Trafford Housing Trust, said: “As we know Christmas is going to be very different this year and – other than a few days around Christmas day itself – the recently announced restrictions are going to be challenging for the majority of people.
“By providing funding and teaming up with these great schools and organisations we hope that we can take away some of the challenges facing families to ensure they can have the best festive break possible.”
