Three nurses from The Christie are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge to raise money for the specialist cancer centre.

Hanna Simpson from Oldham, Lyndsey Griffiths from Trafford and Martha Wilson from Holmfirth all work at The Christie’s Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) unit.

“I’ve been a nurse for over 20 years, and this is by far the most rewarding job I’ve ever had,” comments Hanna, the lead nurse at the unit. “Teenagers and young adults need different support than adult patients and we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without The Christie charity and its supporters.

“Between us, we’re going to walk nearly 75 miles, which is a huge distance,” continues Hanna. “It’s going to be really difficult, but we see first-hand the good that the money raised by these events does. The charity’s amazing supporters provided most of the money needed to build our unit. We want to raise as much money as possible for other brilliant services like ours.”

The TYA service at The Christie provides specialist care for cancer patients between the age of 16 and 24. In addition to both in and outpatient services, it also provides accommodation for relatives/carers, as well as financial, emotional and social support for patients and their families.
