The Prime Minister has said that the Pfizer vaccine isn’t there yet nd we will need to see a full safety data and then the findings must be peer reviewed.
At a press conference Johnson confirmed that the UK has ordered enough for about third of population if it passes safety checks.
“I must stress that these are very, very early days. I’ve talked about the distant bugle over the scientific cavalry coming over the brow of the hill. Tonight that toot of the bugle is louder, but still some way off. We cannot rely on this news as a solution”. he told the country
Professor Vincent Van Tam said that “This is really a very important scientific breakthrough. I am certain of that” but added
“The message now is stand fast rather than get too over-excited about where we now are” but also said that he was hopeful but not certain of seeing some of the vaccine by Christmas
Van Tam continued by saying
“We don’t know yet when we can get back to normal. We are in the second wave and I don’t see how the vaccine will make any difference to the wave we’re in’“
“We’ve seen a swallow but this is very much not a summer. Please don’t relax”
