Manchester charity Prevent Breast Cancer will be one of the charity partners for match-funding charity Big Give’s annual Christmas Challenge, meaning that every penny donated to the charity will be doubled in value.

Money donated to Prevent Breast Cancer from midday on Tuesday 2 December to midday on Tuesday 9 December will be match-funded by Big Give, and the charity’s official BIG Give Champion for this year’s challenge – The Julia Rausing Trust. During last year’s appeal, the charity received over £148,000 in donations.

“This is an amazing opportunity to double the value of donations you make to our charity this year,” explained Prevent Breast Cancer’s head of income generation, Jessica Ruth. “We know that so many of our supporters like to give a little extra at Christmas and this year they can make an even bigger impact by donating during the Big Give Christmas Challenge week.

“Every penny raised will go towards funding life-saving research into breast cancer prediction and prevention. We fund research projects across the UK, helping the fight against breast cancer.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with almost 57,000 women diagnosed every year. By donating whatever you can afford, you can help us lead the fight against breast cancer and make a breast cancer-free future a reality.”

Prevent Breast Cancer is the UK’s only charity dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer and is headquartered at The Nightingale Centre, at Wythenshawe Hospital. Founded in 1997, it has committed more than £5.1 million in grants to clinical and laboratory research aimed at preventing breast cancer – much of which takes place in Greater Manchester itself.

More recently, it funded the construction of a new National Breast Imaging Academy located next to its current site. Together with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Charity, it fundraised more than £3m to secure the future of this building, which is now in the final stages of construction.
