With the upcoming Christmas special and the new series, a new book coming out is perfectly timed for a true-cosy crime deep dive into life of a police officer in the Caribbean

It is written by an ex-DCI who joined Greater Manchester Police, then joined the CID and subsequently worked undercover in Manchester before being seconded for two years to the Royal Cayman Islands Police..

The Real Death in Paradise is cosy crime…in the sun, recounting the idyllic two years ex-DCI Richard Preston spent as one of the twelve young police officers sent to the tropical paradise and infamous tax-haven of the Cayman Islands.

Who would not love the opportunity to work in a tropical paradise, live in a luxury hotel suite, drive a jeep, learn to scuba dive, travel widely around the region and buy a share in a speedboat? What could possibly go wrong…?

But when faced with the reality of life in the Caribbean – including foiling a turtle egg kidnap, a rum smuggling ring and corrupt police officers – Richard soon found out that the truth was far more interesting than he ever could have imagined.

For anyone that has watched and loved the BBC show (which gets a regular BBC1 primetime audience of over 8 million people), this really is the real Death in Paradise.

After returning to the UK and becoming an Inspector, Richard then became a Security Advisor to Counter Terrorism Policing in the North-West of England. He currently works for the Red Cross and lives in Cheshire with his wife and children.
