At the end of May, the old market square in Wythenshawe will transform into the coolest new music venue as Sounds of the Summer comes to town.
Civic Sounds of the Summer is a free, two-day live music and street food event taking place in Wythenshawe Town Centre on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th May.
With a programme of live sets from young local artists performing in a changing line up, the event will bring festival vibes to the town, with the outdoor stage being taken over by well-known Wythenshawe muso’s, Brighter Sound and Music Evermore.
Brighter Sound will take on the Friday stage with performers to be announced shortly, whilst Music Evermore will be in control of Saturday with confirmed performers, Archie Horan and Solly Temkin.
Chris Maddon, Director at Music Evermore CIC, said: “Music Evermore is proud to provide local performance opportunities for the young people who access and have previously accessed our funded music programmes. Events like Civic Sounds of the Summer are vital in helping them build confidence, develop their skills and strut their stuff on a fantastic stage, while bringing together local residents, friends and families.
“As a born-and-bred Wythy lad, I can honestly say Wythenshawe needs more events like this. We can’t wait!”
Phill Howley, Head of Programmes at Brighter Sound, added: “Brighter Sound is excited to collaborate on Civic Sounds of the Summer, creating space for young people in Wythenshawe to explore their creative potential. Through opportunities like this, emerging artists can take risks, build confidence, and develop their voice through live performance.
“Civic Sounds of the Summer brings live music into the heart of the community, opening up access to new audiences while showcasing the cutting edge of local talent. We’re proud to be part of a programme that supports the next generation of music creators and contributes to a more connected, creative and fairer music world.”
Bite Street Food will also be in town, bringing a tonne of summer food and drink options from local, independent food traders and trucks, offering delicious street food with tastes from around the world.
Sam Rhodes, Centre Manager at Civic, said: “We’re really excited to be bringing Sounds of the Summer to Wythenshawe Civic for the very first time this May. It’s a brand-new event for us, and a great chance to bring people together to enjoy live music in a relaxed, welcoming setting right here at the heart of the community.
“What makes it even more special is that the line-up is being curated by local organisations Music Evermore and Brighter Sound. They do fantastic work supporting emerging talent in Wythenshawe, so it’s brilliant to be working with them to showcase the creativity that exists right on our doorstep.
“We’re looking forward to seeing families, friends and visitors coming along, enjoying the atmosphere, and spending time in the centre. It’s exactly the kind of event we want to grow here; something that feels local, inclusive and genuinely enjoyable for everyone.”
Sounds of the Summer will take place on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th May from 12:00pm to 6:00pm, no tickets are needed, just rock up and enjoy!
