The Lowry Hotel has revealed an exciting new photography competition for children who stay overnight this summer

Manchester’s five-star hotel, The Lowry Hotel, has revealed an exciting new ‘Busy Bee Summer Holiday’ offer and photography competition for children who stay overnight this summer – with a free overnight stay up for grabs, as well as “Lowry Loot” for little ones which can be exchanged for freebies including milkshakes and cookies.

The worker bee, which is emblematic of Mancunian solidarity and pride, with countless depictions of the much-loved icon in several locations across the city, is being honoured by The Lowry Hotel as it unveils its new mascot – the ‘LowBee’ created by Thomas Wolski.

And now, as part of the celebrations, The Lowry Hotel, has launched a “Busy Bees’ fun photo competition for children and families staying at the hotel this summer, with a host of brilliant prizes to be won.

Those taking part in the competition will be asked to snap a bee-related picture in the city, this can be anything from a real bee to one of the many illustrations that can be found locally, before getting a parent to post it to Instagram using the hashtag #lowrylife.

The winning entry and triumphant child will be invited to return to The Lowry Hotel to enjoy a complimentary overnight on a date of their choosing, whilst in second place, the runner up will win a meal for four at The River Restaurant and in third place, afternoon tea for four.

The final three  submissions will be exhibited within the hotel and all entrants will receive invitations to the exhibition reveal – planned for October 2022.

Submissions will be judged by designer of the LowBee, Thomas Wolski, a contemporary artist who uses both traditional and modern techniques in illustration, photography, and painting.

Children who stay at The Lowry Hotel during the school holiday period will receive a ‘Kids Newsletter’ in their room which explains the competition, as well as receiving “Lowry Loot” – printed banknotes which can be handed to any server in the hotel to redeem a free milkshake, mocktail, ice cream or cookie.

The competition is open to all children staying overnight at the Lowry Hotel from Thursday 28 July to Sunday 4 September. The entrant account must be following the hotel on Instagram (@thelowryhotel) and the winner will be announced no later Saturday 10 September on the hotel’s Instagram channel.

Adrian Ellis, General Manager at The Lowry Hotel, said, “The worker bee is synonymous with our great city. That’s why we wanted to integrate it within a brand-new mascot for The Lowry Hotel.

We want to see what artistic creations our young guests can come up with, by launching an exciting competition asking children to snap their favourite bee-related pictures across the city and share with us on social media.

We can’t wait to see what people create and with a range of brilliant prizes up for grabs, we expect the standards to be up to Thomas Wolski’s high expectations. Good luck!”
