The new Secretary of State for Health has hit the ground running hours after starting his new job
Wes Streeting said that he has spoken to the BMA junior doctors committee, and can announce that talks to end their industrial action will begin next week.
“We promised to get negotiations up and running and that is what we are doing.” he wrote on X this evening
Earlier meeting civil servants in the department of health he told them that “from today, the policy of this department is that the NHS is broken” and that he will save it.
“From today, the policy of this department is that the NHS is broken,” Mr Streeting said in one of his first acts as Health Secretary.
“That is the experience of patients who are not receiving the care they deserve, and of the staff working in the NHS who can see that – despite giving their best – this is not good enough.
“When I was diagnosed with kidney cancer, the NHS saved my life. Today, I can begin to repay that debt, by saving our NHS.”
