Greater Manchester will miss the greatest impact of Storm Floris but for those travelling north expect severe weather disruption

The worst of the storm will hit the West Coast of Scotland with the Met Office saying that winds will reach 40-50mph, with 60-70mph more likely at higher elevations and around exposed coasts in Scotland.

In Greater Manchester we will see heavy bursts of much needed rain this morning with Sunny spells and a few heavy showers for the afternoon with winds increasing bringing gale-force gusts in places.

Operators are forecasting travel disruption north of the region

A fallen tree is blocking the tram tracks near Firswood, with Metrolink currently experiencing severe delays on the Manchester Airport and East Didsbury lines.

The A628 WooodheadPass is closed in both directions to high sided vehicles between the A616 at Flouch and the A57 at Hollingworth.

Avanti West Coast and Transpennine have  advised rail passengers not to travel north of Preston, warning it will be “heavily impacted” by the weather

Northern say the storm may affect services today with strong winds and heavy rain expected.

Traims are planned to run across their network with services heading further north disruption.They tell passengers to make sure they check and recheck before travel.
