Public booking opens for this year’s 2023 Buxton International Festival (6-23 July 2023) on Tuesday 4 April.  Here are six good reasons to book tickets:

  1. Wynton Marsalis, the world-renowned trumpeter, bandleader, composer, and a leading advocate of American culture plays Buxton Opera House;
  2. Sir David Hare, award-winning playwright, screenwriter, film and television director, discusses his ‘We Travelled’ Essays and Poems;
  3. Nicola Benedetti, the Grammy award-winning violinist plays Vivaldi, Corelli and Geminiani with The English Concert at Buxton Opera House;
  4. Operas– two new BIF productions – Bellini’s ‘La sonnambula’ and Mozart’s ‘Il re pastore’ and  Handel’s ‘Orlando’ performed by Liberata Collective and Ensemble Hesperi.
  5. The Land of Might-Have-Been – a brand new musical based on the early life of Vera Brittain (best known for writing Testament of Youth), based on the music of Ivor Novello set by Iain Farrington (HM The King’s Coronation composer).  West End star Audrey Brisson plays Vera.
  1. Stars of the Moment – come and see the hottest young stars of the moment, clarinettist Sacha Rattle and tenor Nicky Spence, one of the singers in ‘ENO Does Eurovision’, both of whom have recitals.
