Oldham Manager John Sheridan has been busy on the training ground this week preparing his side for Saturday’s game against Wigan Athletic.

Latics have been beaten in their opening two games of the season but the manager is hoping to put right the wrongs this weekend.

He told the club’s website:

“We haven’t started the season the way I wanted. When you look at the results, they are not good enough.I’ve got to try and build some confidence into the players, try and pick the right team and look at the next game thinking we’re going to win it.

“Wigan are probably the favourites to win the league but I’m really looking forward to the game, it’ll be a tough game for us.”

Wigan have registered two wins out of two in the league so far this season.

“I look at their squad and their bench and they’re very strong,” admitted Sheridan.

“I like Paul Cook, he’s an excellent manager, he’s done a brilliant job and I’m sure they’ll be one of the teams up there at the end of the season.

“It will be a good test for us, I’d rather be playing the likes of Wigan instead of the so-called inferior teams but they’ll come here boosted by the start they’ve had but we’re at home and I expect us to win and try and win the game.

“It doesn’t matter who you’re playing you want to go out and want to win every game, just because you’re playing so-and-so you shouldn’t have to lift your game, you should be going out with a purpose of giving 100%.”

One man who will be available after suspension is summer signing Dan Gardner.

“He is back and available. He has got this cockiness on the ball which I like and hopefully he’ll come in and give us something a little bit different and help us to get the first win.”
