The Business Secretary Grant Shapps has written to the energy Companies warning them not to put up direct debits when consumers are trying to reduce their energy consumption.
Shapps said that he was worried by media reports that said that some people were worried that their direct debits were going up when their usage was going down
The Business Secretary said that it was in everyone’s interest that when energy consumers made efforts to reduce their consumption,suppliers should find a way to make their systems more responsive and ensure bills show what homes are actually using, as opposed to overcharging on estimates.
