Today marked 25 years since PC Alison Armitage was tragically killed on duty.

Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson, Chief Superintendent Estelle Mathieson, alongside officers across the force and Father Barry Lomax were in attendance with her family at her memorial in Oldham today.

On 5th March 2001, Constable Armitage was on duty with a colleague. They were keeping observations on a stolen vehicle, when a youth approached it, entered and started the engine.

Both officers ran to the vehicle, P.C. Armitage from the rear, the other officer going to the driver’s door to open it and detain the occupant.

The youth violently reversed the vehicle which collided with, and drove over P.C. Armitage, and then drove forward once more over the officer. P.C. Armitage was fatally injured.She was 29.
