Moorfield Primary School in Hazel Grove joins Thorn Grove School in Cheadle Hulme in successfully winning its bid for a full or partial rebuild. Stockport Council submitted the bid, with Moorfield Primary School’s place on the SRP confirmed in December 2022.

Moorfield Primary School is one of 400 schools on the scheme, which will see a rebuild of some or all of the school buildings (dependent on confirmation from the Department for Education), creating opportunities for young people in the area for generations to come. Now, the schools announced nationally in December 2022 will be reviewed and prioritised, with the first buildings expected to enter delivery from April 2023 – March 2024.

Councillor Wendy Meikle, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Families, commented:

“I am thrilled that a Stockport school has once again been chosen for this prestigious funding. Our team have done a fantastic job of highlighting the need for a rebuild at Moorfield Primary School, and the scheme is set to modernise the building and create a greener, state-of-the-art environment for our young people to receive the very best education. It’s just another example of how Stockport is attracting the very top investment right now, and is another proud moment for everyone in our borough.”

Paul Anderson, Headteacher of Moorfield Primary School, added:

“At Moorfield Primary, we are all extremely proud and excited to have been awarded this funding. We will be involved in every stage of the planning and development process, and look forward to working with all school stakeholders to create a primary school which realises our ambitious plans for the young people within our school community.”
