High street lender Santander has announced around 750 jobs are at risk of redundancy under plans to shut another 95 branches as part of an overhaul of its network

Two Greater Manchester branches are on the closure list, Didsbury this year and Urmston on a date to be announced

The Spanish-owned high street banking giant reported a 38% drop in pre-tax profits to £1.33 billion for 2024 after taking a hit from provisions for possible motor finance mis-selling and higher savings rates

Santander said the locations being shut “will be covered by new Santander Community Bankers providing face-to-face money management and general support for customers, visiting local communities weekly, as well as attending local Banking Hubs.”
