Sale is set to become a destination for moviegoers with the grand opening of The Northern Light, a luxurious new independent cinema in Stanley Square.

Opening its doors in early 2025, The Northern Light promises an unparalleled cinematic experience, showcasing the latest Hollywood has to offer as well as independent, foreign language, classic films and National Theatre Productions, and other live events from around the globe.

Open year round, excluding Christmas day, the brand new cinema comprises three screens with the latest low energy laser projection, surround sound and a choice of seating including armchairs and sofas for maximum comfort. As no cinematic experience is complete without a treat, there will be a bar serving wine, local craft beer, homemade cake, fresh popcorn and cinema snacks.

The new attraction will be bought to Stanley Square by the family owned business, Manero Cinemas Limited, owners of the Rex in Wilmslow and Savoy in Heaton Moor. On the opening of the group’s sixth cinema, owner and managing director or Manero Cinemas Limited, Tony Mundin, said: “We are thrilled to bring an affordable, luxury experience to Sale for everyone to enjoy a regular trip to the cinema. We will prioritise service and comfort to ensure everyone has a great time!”

The addition of the new cinema follows a wider regeneration of Stanley Square which has seen a number of independents set up shop in the newly revived town centre. Michael Brown director of Altered Space the organisation behind the regenerated development said: “We are delighted to welcome The Northern Light Cinema to Stanley Square. The venue will be an excellent addition, further diversifying our offering and increasing footfall throughout the day and into the evening. It will also complement our exciting line up of food and beverage businesses.”

The Northern Light will serve as a destination for film lovers as well as bolstering Sale’s high street’s economy. The opening of the cinema is set to play a key role in the town centre’s ongoing transformation.

The independent venue will be located in the current WHSmith unit, which will be vacated in September 2024.
