The media Mogul Rupert Murdoch has announced that he is stepping down as chairman of Fox and News Corp after seventy years at the helm
His son Lachlan is to take over the running of both Companies with his ninety two year old father becoming Chairman Emeritus of the two
In a statement released in the last few minutes Lachlan Murdoch said
On behalf of the FOX and News Corp boards of directors, leadership teams, and all the shareholders who have benefited from his hard work, I congratulate my father on his remarkable 70-year career,”
Adding;
“We thank him for his vision, his pioneering spirit, his steadfast determination, and the enduring legacy he leaves to the companies he founded and countless people he has impacted. We are grateful that he will serve as Chairman Emeritus and know he will continue to provide valued counsel to both companies.”
Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn says Murdoch’s “media empire has poisoned global democracy and spread disinformation on a mass scale.”
The Hacked Off campaign said Murdoch senior “presided over a company where widespread illegality occurred and was subsequently covered up,” and repeated its longstanding call for “independent and effective regulation” of the press.
