For the third time since the May election Oldham Council will attempt to form an administration at a meeting this Wednesday

The May local elections left no party in overall control and former leader of the council Arooj Shah said her Labour group would step back

It took two meetings to elect a new Mayor but so far neither Labour, Reform or an Alliance have been able to form an administration

Last week saw the Labour Group who are the largest group on the council u turning on their previous decision not to take part in any leadership election and has been has been seeking backing from other parties to form an administration.

However Councillor Max Woodvine who leads the Conservatives on the council has publicly ruled out supporting a Labour led administration, arguing that after 15 years in charge the borough needs a different direction adding that He has also said that, with no overall majority, no single party should dominate decision making and has instead backed a cross party model where all groups have a stake in the borough’s future.

Reform councillor Paul Taylor has said that Reform has received suggestions for change from other political groups, including proposals aimed at greater localism and giving individual wards a stronger voice. He has again called on other parties to support a Reform led administration.

The other party’s will determine the final outcome with the Oldham Group having 10 councillors, Liberal Democrat have six and the Conservative have four.
