Rochdale MP Paul Waugh has called for a new inquiry on grooming gangs despite the fact that he voted against one in the House of Commons on Wednesday

Waugh was interview on BBC Politics NW earlier today he said that the Conservative amendment on an inquiry would have wrecked the bill that Labour was proposing for increasing child protection

The politics of this should be about real action and not about party politics he said defending his vote in the Commons

After the vote on Wednesday he wrote on X

“Tonight I voted for a bill that significantly improves child protection.Don’t believe the misinformation and lies spread online.Lies spread by those who see the appalling abuse of children as a political game – rather than unite cross-party to root it out.”

He added that The name of Rochdale has been used and abused by outsiders who treat child rape as a political game – rather than an appalling crime that needs urgent action.
