Covid vaccinations will be mandatory for care home staff in England and ministers are considering extending the rule to all NHS staff according to reports this morning

The move could lead to the government being sued under European human rights law or equalities legislation, and industry groups have warned that the plan could lead to workers quitting rather than get immunised.

According to the Times The government will open a consultation tomorrow on requiring vaccination as a condition of employment for health service workers in an attempt to reduce transmission in hospitals and save lives.

Ministers will also announce that they are changing the law to make vaccines compulsory for staff employed in care homes amid concerns about take-up in some parts of the country.

More than 40,000 people have died of Covid in English care homes.
