Hundreds of Salford Red Devils supporters took to the streets for a protest march to the city’s Community Stadium

The ground should have been hosting a match with Wakefield which was cancelled after the club was unable to field enough players

Supporters told the owners Sire Kailahi and Curtiz Brown in no uncertain terms: “This was our team. You destroyed it.”

The protest was organised by the 1873 group, set up to demand answers from the club’s owners on the future direction of the Red Devils

Earlier this week Salford cited “significant concerns regarding player welfare” for cancelling the Wakefield match. They have lost 15 first-team players since the beginning of the season and have failed to pay players and staff on time on numerous occasions since a takeover of the club by a consortium in February

The owners put out a statement earlier in the week insisting that the club was not for sale and in a tumultuous week for the club their chief operating officer quit claiming that the ownership has suggested she sleep with an individual at the RFL to smooth things over’ for the club.
