Tameside MP and Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner finds herself under attack in the press this Bank Holiday after it was revealed has purchased a seaside apartment on the south coast of England for more than £700,000
The purchase means that the deputy prime minister now has three properties including the home in her constituency in Ashton-under-Lyne as well as having the use use of a grace-and-favour ministerial apartment in Admiralty House in Westminster.
Political opponents as well as the right wing press have criticised the purchase in Brighton
James Cleverly, the shadow housing secretary, said “glaring questions” over the Deputy Prime Minister’s property arrangements were left unanswered
According to the Tekegraph, asource claimed the new home was purchased in order for her to have somewhere to stay closer to Westminster, which is more than 50 miles from Hove.
Because it is not her primary residence, it is expected to be empty for at last six months every year.
The Tories had demanded that she reveal which of her properties was designated as her primary residence for tax purposes, and how much council tax she pays on her new home.
