New towns modelled on “garden suburbs” like Greater Manchester’s Hale have been promised by Labour Deputy Leader Angela Rayner

In a speech in Leeds earlier today she set out the party’s plans to build eight new towns if they win power with with affordable and social housing at their core

The plans would be developed within a year of the party taking office she said adding that the new towns will have access to green space on their doorsteps and” we will restore nature to help wildlife thrive.”

Besides More social and affordable homes – with a gold standard aim of 40 per cent she promised buildings with character, in tree-lined streets that fit in with nearby areas and design that pays attention to local history and identity

Planning she said would be fit for the future, with good links to town and city centres and there would be guaranteed
public transport and public services, from doctors’ surgeries to schools as well as access to nature, parks, and places for children to play.
