Angela Rayner has said that this morning’s result ‘must be a wake-up call’ for Labour.
In the aftermath of a third place finish in the Gorton and Denton by election, the former Deputy Leader whose constituency borders that of Gorton and Denton said that Voters want the change that we promised – and they voted for.
“If we want to unrig the system, if we want to make the change we were sent into Government to make, we have to be braver.”
A labour agenda that puts people first.
That’s what all of us across our movement need to rededicate ourselves to this morning.
Meanwhile fellow Greater Manchester MP Graham Stringer has called for Kier Starmer to quit told The Telegraph: “I think it is now generally recognised that the PM has run out of lives and has failed.”
Fellow Greater Manchester MP Afzal Khan said
Last night’s by-election result is not the one we wanted. Angeliki would have been a fantastic Labour MP for Gorton and Denton in Parliament.
I’ve known Angeliki for 20 years and she has been a fierce advocate and champion for our city. I look forward to continuing to work with her to serve the people of Manchester.
