Manchester United and England striker Marcus Rashford, has published an open letter to ministers asking them to keep food vouchers going for deprived children during the summer holidays.

“The government has taken a ‘whatever it takes’ approach to the economy,” he writes. “I’m asking you today to extend that same thinking to protecting all vulnerable children across England.”

The striker relied on free school meals as a youngster, and in his short adult life has raised more than £20 million to help feed young people.
