Manchester United and England player Marcus Rashford has given Year 7 students at Co-op Academy Swinton a boost after learning they were studying his book.

The Year 7 students all received a copy of ‘You are a Champion’ and read chapters as a team before completing challenges in form groups and for homework.

Commenting on the project, Zarina Ali, head of Co-op Academy Swinton, said, “The students were thrilled to have Marcus Rashford recognise and support their efforts on Twitter. The work produced has been amazing and it’s been a hugely rewarding experience for everyone involved.

The book shares many of our values around always being yourself, caring for others and working as a team.”

Marcus Rashford shared the school’s project with his 5.1m Twitter followers. He grew up in Wythenshawe, South Manchester, only a few miles from the school. The book is packed with stories from Marcus’s own life, along with advice from performance psychologist Katie Warriner. It shows children how to be themselves and dream big.

The Academy has a long-term partnership with the Manchester United Foundation. A partner schools programme was established to work with students and staff to raise students’ aspirations, leadership and confidence building.
