Police have announced that they are to investigate what the Post Office for potential fraud  in the Horizon scandal, after what is being termed as the biggest miscarriage of justice in British legal history

The Met Police say that the Post Office is under investigation for the wrongful prosecution of hundreds of subpostmasters.

Former subpostmasters and subpostmistresses were held liable by the Post Office for financial discrepancies thrown up by its computerised accounting system Horizon as faulty Fujitsu accounting software made it appear as though money was missing from their branches

More than 700 Post Office branch managers were handed criminal convictions after the accounting software made it appear as though money was missing.

The investigation comes as 50 new potential victims of the scandal have contacted lawyers following an ITV drama about the issue that has been airing on TV this week
