Police have released more details concerning the stabbing to death of a 25 year old man in Oldham on Wednesday.
A blue Vauxhall Corsa pulled onto Fifth Avenue, Oldham and a group of around five males – armed with knives and machetes – exited the vehicle before causing damage to a property.
The group subsequently fled the scene after being confronted by another male. As one of the group fled on foot he was fatally stabbed.
He has been named locally as 25 year old Charlie Elms.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and a 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have since been released under investigation.
Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and assist police with their investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Butterworh of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “As always, our thoughts are firmly with the family of the young man who has sadly lost his life and our main priority is ensuring we can provide them with the answers they desperately need.
“Our investigation is progressing at speed but we are confident there are people out there who are holding information that could greatly assist our enquiries.
“This incident occurred in a built up residential area, in broad daylight, so we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, seen a group of people behaving suspiciously in the area at the time or have dash-cam footage, to get in touch as a matter of urgency.
“Any information, no matter how small or insignificant you feel it may be, could be vital in ensuring we identify and bring the responsible party to justice.”
