Police issued the following statement this morning:

A co-ordinated response was put in place involving officers from Specialist Operations, Oldham, Tameside and City of Manchester Divisions.

Officers were deployed to patrol previous locations used for car meets. The car meet was then followed to Stockport where disruptive action by the police resulted in the cars being made to disperse.

The car registration details of those taking part were also recorded by officers.

Superintendent John-Paul Ruffle of Greater Manchester Police Specialist Operations said: “While the majority of car enthusiasts are passionate but law-abiding, this meet acted irresponsibly, recklessly and illegally. It was disruptive to local residents and also put other road users at risk.

Greater Manchester Police will not let such behaviour go unchallenged and are prepared to take robust action where necessary, which can include seizing vehicles, issuing penalty notices and notifying insurance companies.”
