Prestwich Regeneration LLP, the joint venture between Bury Council and nationwide placemaker Muse, has submitted detailed plans for the next phase of the £100m once-in-a-generation regeneration of Prestwich Village.
The submission marks a significant step forward in delivering the new village centre. It follows recent progress on site, including the appointment of a demolition contractor for the Longfield Centre and the near completion of the £14m Travel Hub on Fairfax Road. Together, these milestones secure the Greater Manchester Good Growth funding allocated to Prestwich and ensures the project remains on track for delivery.
Prestwich is one of the most successful and distinctive local centres in Greater Manchester, and the regeneration aims to build on its strengths, supporting independent businesses, creating new community facilities and improving public spaces at the heart of the village.
The scheme will see 248 new homes: All build-to-rent apartments, with 62 available as affordable housing at 80% of market rent.
There will be a new market hall, a new single-storey building at the heart of the village square will have space for approximately 13 independent operators offering food, drink, and retail. It’ll also be open into the evening to support the village’s night-time economy.
Plans also include a new health centre and an enlarged village square
Hugh Taylor, Senior Project Manager at Muse, said:
“The submission of this planning application is a major milestone for Prestwich. We know how important community space is and this next phase is about delivering just that. We’ve updated the masterplan to feature more places for people to get together both in the new larger library and expanded village square. With the travel hub due to open this summer, there is real momentum behind this project, and we look forward to working with Bury Council to bring these plans to life.”
The first phase of the Prestwich village regeneration, the £14m travel hub on Fairfax Road –– is on track to open in summer 2026, delivering more than 300 parking spaces including EV charging points, cycle storage, and car club vehicles.
