Plans to build 249 new homes on Stretford Mall have been revealed with the public consultation now open

The proposal, a venture between Bruntwood and Trafford Council outlines plans for 249 high-quality new homes on the site of the existing Mall, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to three-bedroom townhouses to reflect the diverse range of occupiers that the area attracts, from single residents to growing families, with a focus on providing accessible homes for all.

At the centre of the plans, a new park will be created providing places for relaxation and social interaction, while a number of ground floor commercial units will also be incorporated, further enhancing the community amenity for Stretford residents and visitors. The layout of the scheme also allows for public access throughout the development, connecting to the wider masterplan.

Integration within the existing community and quality of build materials have been at the forefront of the design plans with the joint venture committed to providing new homes that blend into the urban fabric of the town. This includes external design that will draw on the style of existing housing in the area.

Rob Elsom, development director at Bruntwood, said:“Following the successful relaunch of King Street, which marked the first major milestone in the masterplan, we are now looking ahead to the next phase of development in Stretford, which will see much-needed housing brought to the area.

“Our aim throughout the masterplan is to ensure that we’re delivering for the people of Stretford, and these new plans reflect that commitment to regeneration that is inclusive, integrated and sustainable. We are looking forward to hearing from the local community on this important next phase for the town.”

Cllr Liz Patel, Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “The King Street scheme has proved to be a massive success and now we turn our attention to much-needed housing in the area. Working with our partners, we aim to build more than 200 new homes in the area in this next phase. The Council is committed to providing homes for all and creating a thriving economy. Please have your say by taking part in our consultation.”

The plans form part of the wider Stretford Town Centre Masterplan. Approved in 2023, it sets out a clear and ambitious vision for the area’s regeneration, designed to ensure that Stretford town centre is a great place to work, live, shop and play, by creating an attractive and economically sustainable town.

The joint venture has already delivered a redeveloped King Street, which opened in August, providing a new heart of the town centre, improving connectivity and bringing new retail and leisure options to the area.

The consultation will run until Friday 5th December 2025, with the public able to get involved via the website, or at an in-person event on Tuesday 25th November from 3-7pm at the Rainy Heart pop-up on Sir Tony Lloyd Square (Unit 97-98, Pinnington Lane, Stretford). Residents can also email[email protected] to register interest in attending an online briefing on Thursday 27th November, 6-7pm. Consultation boards will also be on display in Stretford Mall, next to the Chester Road entrance.
