Trafford Council, supported by Urmston Partnership, has appointed Philosophy PR to implement a year-long public relations and promotional campaign to encourage more people from across the North West to visit Urmston town centre for leisure and shopping.

The project has been funded by using Section 106 contributions specifically allocated for the benefit of Urmston town centre.

The Timperley-based boutique PR, marketing and communications consultancy, headed up by Gemma Carey and Victoria Maltby, won the account following a formal tender process.

The duo has made an immediate start meeting with local Councillors, stakeholders and members of the Urmston Partnership not-for-profit organisation.

With a calendar of creative campaigns planned to promote Urmston over the course of the next 12 months, incorporating retail, food and drink plus arts and culture, Philosophy PR is committed to raising the profile of the vibrant town centre and its businesses to ensure its place on the North West map.

In addition to launching new events and festivals and introducing new promotional activities, Philosophy PR will also provide support for Urmston’s already well established calendar of events, such as the Christmas Light Switch On, and newly formed Business Networking Breakfast.

The company will also champion innovative schemes and initiatives offered by Trafford Council, including the Town Centre Business Growth programme that provides financial support in the form of a £10,000 interest-free loan to assist with occupying vacant premises, physical improvements and first year overheads, or a £5,000 interest-free loan towards marketing.

Sarah Steinhoefel, Co-Chair of Urmston Partnership, comments: “Philosophy PR impressed us with its knowledge of Urmston and its requirements for the coming year.  It produced a comprehensive and creative PR and marketing plan that will not only promote Urmston town centre but will excite and engage individuals across the wider North West, encouraging new footfall to the town.”

Claire Foster, Co-Chair of Urmston Partnership, adds: “Their strategy is clear and straightforward with achievable objectives, and as an Urmston resident I am very much looking forward to the next 12 months in the town centre.”

Co-founder of Philosophy PR, Gemma Carey, adds: “Urmston is often referred to as ‘the new Chorlton’ however the town centre has its own unique identity with a flourishing food and drink scene as well as well a collection of established independent shops and professional service business.

“Our proposed PR and marketing plans will enhance what Urmston already has to offer as well as see the introduction of new events, festival and activites that will appeal to those living further afield.  Urmston has entrepreneurial flair in abundance and a wonderful community spirit; is a great place to live, work and play.”

Philosophy PR will work closely with the Council, Urmston Partnership and local businesses to develop and deliver the project.
