Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that a pedestrian, a man in his 30’s,died on the M62 near Eccles in the early hours of Tuesday morning

Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the man being a pedestrian on the motorway prior to being struck.

A 25-year-old man remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.

An investigation has been launched by GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit and enquiries are ongoing.  Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident which took place around 12.15an  or may have dashcam footage of the collision or of the pedestrian on the motorway; to make contact Greater Manchester Police.

The M62 between Eccles and Birchwood was closed in both directions whilst collision investigation work was undertaken.
