This Monday sees Manchester Cathedral hosting a multifaith conference surrounding climate change.

‘Our Faith Our Planet’ aims to promote shared values amongst faith communities, to educate and inform people about climate change and its effects and to share examples of best practice, with particular focus on preserving public buildings and places of worship and working towards reducing our carbon footprint.

Guest speakers will include the Interim Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd, The Bishop of Manchester The Rt Revd David Walker and Ruth Wood from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.

The day will include a range of presentations, table discussions, displays, workshops and a choir performance. Refreshments will also be available.

The Dean of Manchester, The Very Reverend Rogers Govender will open the event which has been organised by Manchester Cathedral and supported by Manchester City Council, The Carbon Literacy Trust, The Diocese of Manchester, the UK Chinese Association, Ramboll UK Ltd, CARITAS (Diocese of Salford), Buddha’s Light International Association and the Peace and Unity Group which is comprised of representatives from faith and community groups across Greater Manchester.

The Very Reverend Rogers Govender, Dean of Manchester said:

“The multi-faith climate change conference taking place at Manchester Cathedral on Monday 14 November is an important collaborative effort by people of different faiths to address the crucial issues surrounding our carbon footprint. We have many religious buildings in Greater Manchester and we have a unique opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint.

I would therefore encourage you to attend this event and the spread the call as we seek to preserve our environment for future generations.”

People of all faiths or none are welcome to attend this exciting and informative event.
