Residents are being asked for their views on the planning application for a new Denton Link Road running from Ashton Road alongside the Oldham Batteries site linking up with Edward Street and Hyde Road.
The road will bring £1.67 million of Greater Manchester Growth Deal investment into Tameside; reduce traffic congestion at Crown Point; and encourage the comprehensive mixed use redevelopment of the former Oldham Batteries site.
A public drop in event is taking place on Wednesday 22 July 2015 at Denton Methodist Church on Hyde Road in Denton from 3 till 7 pm. The Council encourages local residents to come along and have your say on the Denton Link Road plans.
The Denton Link Road project and the redevelopment for retail, residential and leisure of the former Oldham Batteries site in Denton has been a priority for Tameside Council since the factory closed in 2002 given its town centre location and strategic importance to the future of Denton.
The vacant 6.3 hectare site has been a target for vandalism, anti-social behaviour and illegal traveller encampments and its redevelopment has always been seen as crucial in regenerating the area and bringing it back into beneficial community and economic use.
One of the key issues surrounding this area of Denton has been accessibility and the costs required to improve the road network. £1.67 million of Greater Manchester Growth Deal money has now been made available for the construction of the Denton Link Road.
This offers a unique opportunity to deliver a link road to relieve traffic congestion and assist the Council’s long-standing ambition to encourage the mixed use retail, residential and leisure regeneration of the area.
Network Space (formerly Langtree) are also consulting during this event on a separate application for the first phase of development on the site.

Redevelopment of the Oldham Batteries site has been a council priority for well over 10 years so I’m very pleased that we are now able to get that started by building the link road. I have always said that residents and businesses in the area have suffered with traffic noise and congestion for far too long. The Denton Link Road project will ease traffic congestion, provide local jobs and support the re-development of the area for the benefit of the local community with retail, residential and leisure.”

The future masterplan for the site brings a comprehensive mixed use development, including an important town centre retail element. And more importantly it is great that investment is focused on this area of Denton in particular, where residents have long had to put up with the vacant site. In the short term the investment will bring jobs to Denton. And in the longer term it will secure the future growth of the town.”
