The Oldham MP Jim McMahon was another casualty in the region when Kier Starmer carried out his ministerial shuffle over the weekend

McMahon who represents Oldham West Chadderton and Royton was removed from his role as Minister of State delivering on fixing local government and driving devolution in England

His boss was Angela Rayner and McMahon may well have been caught in the crossfire following her resignation

In a statement put out on social media he appeared to take a swipe at the leadership of the party

“Working people have been exploited and their efforts abused for too long. Quiet compliance and being asked to work to the grind and play by the rules without getting on in life has run its course. That is obvious.” adding

The Labour government must recognise that all politics is family and community. For over a decade working people and their communities have been hammered and patience for change has run out. It’s a hard inheritance but the reality. If people don’t urgently feel the benefit in better living standards; safer, cleaner and decent neighbourhoods then it’s for nothing.”

He had earlier commenting on losing his boss whom he described as having been everything people would expect; determined, hardworking, and a decent public servant with real life experience.

“She can be proud of what’s she’s delivered for the country.”
