Police have have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of the murder of Oldham mother Kulsuma Akter in Bradford city centre at the weekend.

The man, from Oldham, was arrested in the early hours of this morning  in the Aylesbury area and is understood to be Habibur Masum who the police have been hunting for since the incident.

Earlier it emerged that the man suspected of murdering the Oldham mother Kulsuma Akter  in Bradford city centre at the weekend was on bail accused of assaulting and threatening to kill her it has emerged

Both West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester Police have made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct  due to previous police contact with Habibur Masum and Kulsuma Akter

Court documents show Mr Masum was charged with threatening to kill Ms Akter on 24 November and assaulting her on 23 November. Both offences were alleged to have happened in Manchester.

Mr Masum pleaded not guilty to both offences at a hearing at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 27 November last year where he was released on bail and ordered not to contact Ms Akter

The 27 year old died  after being stabbed on Westgate in Bradford at the junction with Drewton Road on Saturday afternoon

Kulsuma was taken to hospital but subsequently died from her injuries.

She was with her young baby at the time of the incident – the baby is safe and was not harmed in the incident.   was
