Oldham Council will be looking for its fourth leader leader Amanda Chadderton has lost her seat by just 21 votes in what she described as a heavily personalised campaign

She follows Sean Fielding and Arooj Shah last year.

Ms Chadderton said: “In Oldham it’s become so toxic over the past few years and that is the reason that I’m the third leader that has lost, and why we do lose seats.”

She later tweeted

Being leader of Oldham was the honour of my life but yesterday Royton deemed I was no longer good enough to serve them & that’s the beauty of democracy. I’ve loved being a Councillor for 11 years and wouldn’t change anything, time to get my life back. Thank you for the support

The make-up of Oldham council now stands at Labour 32 (-3), Conservative 11 (+2), Liberal Democrats 10 (+1), Failsworth Independent Party 3 (-2), Independent 4 (+2).
