Twenty five grants totalling £266,000 have been awarded to local businesses by Oldham Council to improve shop fronts in Oldham.
The Leader of Oldham Council, Cllr Arooj Shah says this investment marks “another exciting step forward” in revitalising and transforming Oldham’s high streets.
The Shop Front Improvement Grant Scheme was launched to enhance the developing Oldham town centre and support independent businesses.
The grant scheme is paid for by funding from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Local Growth and Place Flexible Grants Programme.
The scheme aims to improve the overall experience for visitors and shoppers, with improvements to business frontages in the Union Street, Yorkshire Street, Henshaw Street and George Street areas.
Businesses and organisations receiving funding are Bargains 4 Less, Charcoal Grill, HFC, Janni Boutique, Occasions Florist, Morris Dental, Tennant Podiatry, Pennine Mencap, Oldham Makers, Tommyfield Super Store, Age UK Oldham, Bittersweet, Union Street Dental Practice, Furniture By Lauren, Oldham Chiropractic Clinic, Thrive Wellness, Tymbuktu Health and Beauty Clinic, Zutti, Starvision Electronics, Winos, The Link, Pizza Pan Express and Cunninghams News Convenience Store.
Leader of Oldham Council, Cllr Arooj Shah met with recipients of the grants in the town centre to celebrate the news. They included service users from Pennine Mencap, a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities in Oldham and Tameside based at Rhodes Bank Chambers on Union Street, who were delighted to share with her their journey, purpose and the work they do.
