Talented sprinter Bradsell won the second Group One contest of his career when he landed the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes at this year’s Ebor Meeting at York. The four-year-old colt will now appear at Haydock in the Sprint Cup.

Archie Watson’s runner’s last appearance at the Lancashire-based racecourse was when he was third in the Sandy Lane Stakes in 2023. He will put his 100% record on the line this season when he lines up in a strong field for the 6f race.

Best Form of His Career

Bradsell is 16/1 in the UK horse racing betting for the 2024 Sprint Cup. Should he prove successful at Haydock, he will complete a hat-trick and continue the best form of his career. The sprinter began the season with victory in France in the Prix du Cercle at Deauville. Under the hands of Hollie Doyle, he raced down the centre of the course and proved too strong for his rivals.

As the race results show, the British horse overcame Australian superstar mare Asfoora, Breeders’ Cup winner Big Evs and Achilles Stakes winner Believing in a strong renewal of the Nunthorpe Stakes. It helped take his career prize money over £750,000.

Should he prevail in the Sprint Cup on his next outing, connections of Bradsell will be then consider an international run for their horse. The Prix de l’Abbaye in Paris and Breeders’ Cup Championship at Del Mar, California are likely to be options for the in-form sprinter.

Inisherin The Biggest Challenger to Bradsell

One of the youngest sprinters set to take on Bradsell at Haydock is Inisherin. The three-year-old has been successful twice this season. He won the Group Two Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock and then he landed the Group One Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

Inisherin faced the older horses in the sprint division for the first time in the July Cup at Newmarket. He had to settle for fifth place of 11 runners in the 6f race that was won by Mill Stream.

Kevin Ryan’s colt is the highest-rated runner in the Sprint Cup field with an official rating of 117. He will be bidding to become the first three-year-old to win the race since Hello Youmzain in 2019.

Elite Status Continues to Progress

Arguably the most progressive sprinter in the UK this season has been Elite Status. He began his campaign with victory in a Listed contest over 6f at Newbury. Karl Burke’s horse went into that race with a rating of 102.

The son of Havana Grey returned to Newbury for the Group Three Hackwood Stakes. He hit the front just inside the final furlong to score by half a length. It was the biggest prize of his career so far. That victory has convinced his connections to have a shot at the Sprint Cup where he will take on some of the best sprinters in Europe.

The Sprint Cup at Haydock is the latest instalment of the Sprint Series in the British Champions Series. It is the biggest flat race of the season in the North West, with £400,000 in prize money on offer this year.
