Bury North MP James Daly,Leigh’s James Grundy and Bolton West’s Chris Green are among a group of Tory MP’s who have written to the Prime Minister piling pressure on him to further cut immigration.

The Group of mainly Red Wall MP’s titled the New Conservatives have launched a report today launching a report containing a series of proposals to drastically curb the “destabilising” impact of “mass migration”.

The report says that it is wrong to turn towards importing cheap labour when there are between 5 and 6 million economically inactive citizens in the UK. Many ‘missing workers’ are in Northern cities such as Middlesbrough, Hull, and Blackburn.”

The MP’s say that the Tories won the 2019 election with a manifesto that promised that there would be “fewer lower-skilled migrants and overall numbers will come down. And we will ensure that the British people are always in control”.

“Voters across traditional Conservative heartland seats and new Red Wall seats alike placed their trust in us to keep our word.”

Their report recommends closing the temporary schemes that grant eligibility for worker visas to ‘care workers’ and ‘senior care workers’,raising the main skilled work visa salary threshold and extending the closure of the student dependent route

They also propose closing the Graduate Route to students and to reserved university Study Visas for the brightest international students as well as introducing a cap on the number of refugees legally accepted for resettlement in the UK
