The facility, based at Ordsall Leisure Centre, has been delivered thanks to a £190k grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation as well as an additional £127k from Salford Council.

The project also includes the construction of new changing rooms and an education space, which will support the futsal centre as well as the existing Foundation-funded 3G pitch at the site.

Futsal has gained momentum in recent years with its fast-paced action and technical prowess. Salford aims to spearhead its growth in the region by providing a dedicated facility that supports and nurtures local talent. The new futsal centre will serve as an inclusive hub for promoting and developing this exciting sport within our community and beyond.

The opening event showcased the futsal SCL arena through a facility tour and a comprehensive presentation on the project’s objectives, potential impact, and exciting plans. Additionally attendees witnessed a thrilling futsal demonstration, exemplifying the extraordinary skills and athleticism inherent to the sport.

Councillor Barbara Bentham, Lead Member for Environment, Neighbourhoods, Sports and Leisure, said: I am thrilled to see yet another first for Salford as we open the North West’s only dedicated Futsal facility. Futsal is a sport gaining popularity across the country and offers huge benefits in improving mental and physical health. In Salford, we are committed to promoting sports and physical activity, and I want to encourage our residents to come down to Ordsall to give it a try.”

Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA and Government – to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England by delivering projects like this across the country.

“Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities.

“We’re delighted that the local community in Salford will now be able to enjoy all these benefits thanks to the new facilities at Ordsall Leisure Centre.”
