A key construction project at the North Manchester General Hospital site is about to go live!
Work will begin next month on building a new Multi-Storey Car Park and Cycle Hub, scheduled to open in March 2023. With almost 1000 parking spaces, this will free up construction areas across the site and tackle the ongoing parking issues faced by staff, patients and visitors.
It is part of an exciting vision to deliver a digitally connected hospital and modern mental health in-patient unit within a health campus located at the heart of the local community over the next 10-15 years.
“The Multi-Storey Car Park and Cycle Hub is the first stage in the journey towards providing an outstanding working environment for our staff and excellent care services close to home for our patients,” said Ian Lurcock, Chief Executive at North Manchester General Hospital, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
“We are not simply replacing dilapidated buildings which are no longer fit for purpose. The new health campus will enable us to create new jobs, promote healthy lifestyles, develop skills and contribute to a zero-carbon environment for the benefit of the local neighbourhood and beyond.”
Ahead of demolition and construction work starting, contractors will be installing construction safety hoardings in some hospital car parks. To minimise any inconvenience to staff, patients and visitors, the redevelopment team have created 85 new car parking spaces in advance of the work starting and re-allocated patient and visitor spaces close to the hospital entrances. Disabled parking bays will not be affected. New paths, improved lighting and CCTV will also help to keep everyone safe.
Please allow extra time to park on site from Monday 28th February. If you don’t need to drive to the site while the work is ongoing, there’s a range of public transport options available.
