Disruption at Piccadilly train station has continued into a second day

However trains have started to operate out of the station and train operators are advising the public to check before you travel

It follows damage to overhead wires just outside the terminus that has seen over a 100 services cancelled yesterday

Network Rail have this morning said that disruption is expected to last most of the day

Northern earlier wrote on X this morning at 9.15

“Initial repairs have been completed and the lines into Piccadilly are starting to open to trains running, albeit a reduced number of trains.

We will now begin to start up our south Manchester routes, which we usually do at 5am. As trains are displaced, it will take some time to get a reliable service in place again, so whilst trains will start to move in places we still advise people to not travel this morning.

We have ticket acceptance in place with all train operators that run to Piccadilly via reasonable routes. We also have ticket acceptance in place with @BeeNetwork Metrolink & bus services.

Again, our advice remains to not travel at this stage. As we start recovering a train service we hope to update advice as the morning progresses.”

We understand that further repairs will be needed Saturday night.
