A new night cafe to help homeless people in Bury has been opened by the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Dorothy Gunther.
The cafe has been opened at the Mosses Centre by Helping Manchester & Bury Homeless, a not-for-profit organisation that began five years ago in the city centre.
It now operates a street kitchen three times a week, serving up to 100 people each time and being there to listen and signpost individuals in the right direction for long-term help.
Meals are sourced from local stores and put together by volunteers who have been trained to Level 2 food hygiene.
The charity now aims to bring a much-needed weekend service to the Bury, providing personal support and rehabilitation to help service users back into their own accommodation and back into society.
Cllr Gunther said: “As the weather gets colder, the plight of homeless people becomes more stark and we have a duty to help where we can. It was a pleasure to meet the team from Helping Manchester & Bury Homeless and I am sure their hard work and dedication will have positive results in Bury.”
