Work will begin on the restoration of Ashton Town Hall steps after planning consent has been granted for the next phase of work on the iconic Town Hall steps as part of the £19.87m regeneration of Ashton town centre.

The steps will be restored to their original 1840 design with Natural sandstone replacing worn concrete

Handrails with integrated lighting for accessibility will be introduced with Brass inlays for heritage character and historic cannons are to be reinstated

Over the next few days, the pedestrian walkway through the site will move to allow paving works to continue safely. Clear signage will guide you, and access to businesses will remain open.

Tameside Council are also exploring plans to transform the Town Hall into a civic, cultural, and commercial hub by 2030
