The new Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party will be announced on the 5th September,chairman of the 1922 Committee and MP for Altrincham and Sale,Sir Graham Brady has announced

Nominations will open and close tomorrow and candidates must have the backing of at least 20 MP’s to stand with the second round of voting to take place this Thursday

A series of votes will then whittle down the candidates to a final two by what Brady hoped would be next Monday when the vote will then be out to party members

There are so far eleven declared candidates with Rishi Sunak in the lead for endorsements from MPs with 38, Penny Mordaunt with 23 and Tom Tugendhat with 19.

The other candidates to have declared their candidacy so far are: Liz Truss, Nadhim Zahawi, Kemi Badenoch, Suella Braverman, Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid, Grant Shapps and Rehman Chishti.

Priti Patel is still considering whether to stand, while Jacob Rees-Mogg is also reportedly mulling a bid.
