Manchester has been recognised as one of the top cities in England for apprenticeship opportunities, particularly when it comes to competitive pay.

A new report by leading apprenticeship resource, Best Apprenticeships, places Manchester at the forefront of well-paid apprenticeships, highlighting its importance as a hub for young talent.

Manchester is ranked as the leading city in England for well-paid apprenticeship opportunities, offering the highest number of roles paying above the real Living Wage of £12 per hour. 64% of all apprenticeship opportunities on Manchester had starting salaries above the minimum wage – higher than the national average.

In addition to competitive pay, Manchester boasts a strong supply of apprenticeship opportunities, making it a prime destination for those seeking to start their careers through hands-on learning and earning.

Manchester’s apprenticeship market is particularly strong in sectors such as business and administration, health & science, and education and early years, with those industries offering the largest number of opportunities in the city.

While Manchester shines as a beacon for apprenticeships, the report reveals a more challenging environment in other parts of the country. Areas like Blackpool, Canterbury, and the London Borough of Sutton are struggling with both low pay and a lack of available opportunities, making them some of the least favourable places for apprentices in England.

Nationally, the top three sectors offering the most apprenticeships are engineering and manufacturing, business and administration, and education and early years. However, the highest-paying sectors, offering salaries above the real Living Wage, are business and administration, legal finance and accounting, and construction and the built environment.
